Raptor Fair

If you have never been then you are truly missing out. Charlie and the team once again went above and beyond to put on a fantastic show for all who attended. After a dubious start in the rain, it soon cleared away and visitors began to arrive much to the relief of stallholders and of course the FFC, who had already endured the previous days wind causing havoc with stand preparations. We welcomed several newcomers along with a familiar crowd of current members, offered advice, friendly chat, and a glass of Prosecco.

The NCBP team put on their usual high-quality displays, including our very own Amy Nicklin who successfully did her first lure swinging display – with a crowd of falconers watching – no easy feat! As usual Sebastian the wild red kite stole the show, quite literally on Sunday, by cunningly stealing food meant for another bird on the perch right in front of Charlie, much to the hilarity of the audience.

Saturday evening saw the traditional BBQ and “Question of Squawk”, unfortunately we were beaten this year, but I have to say the questions were the hardest they have ever been and this was reflected in everyone’s score. Extra kudos to Montse for coming up with Mavrogordato though, even if we couldn’t spell it! We retired back to the campsite where some of the ladies had a go at holding a golden eagle thanks to Micheal Parry from the eagle group.

Sunday is traditionally a little quieter but with the football this year it was even more so. But it did give the traders and regulars a bit of breathing space to socialise and do some shopping of their own. And anyone who is familiar with the brilliant Coch-Y-Bonddu books will know that it is absolutely impossible to walk past and not purchase something-I swear it is some kind of witchcraft that they manage to find so many books!

Many thanks to Jenny and Sharron, Angie and Montse the ‘Snack Supervisor’ and everyone else who visited and spent time chatting and helping on the stand.
